Bambu Lab Guide: Models, Compatibility & Common Issues

Last verified: · How we research

What our research found

  • Bambu Lab's filament guide groups printers by frame type, not by series: ABS, ASA, PC and PA are matched to enclosed printers, while PLA, PETG and TPU work on open-frame or enclosed machines. The table below adds that column to every current consumer model.
  • The three open-frame A-series models do not share one heatbed limit: the A1 reaches 100 °C, while the A1 mini and the larger A2L both stop at 80 °C.
  • Multi-color hardware is not interchangeable across series: the AMS lite works only with A1 and A2 series printers (one unit per printer), and Bambu Lab says it is not compatible with X, P or H2 series printers.

How we chose

  • Models listed are those on Bambu Lab's official spec pages or store on the date shown under Last verified.
  • Every spec in the table comes from Bambu Lab's own spec page or store page for that model.
  • Material advice follows Bambu Lab's filament guide, not third-party opinion.
  • Discontinued models are listed only with their official end-of-life dates.

Buying framework

  1. Decide on frame type first — Bambu Lab's filament guide recommends an enclosed printer for ABS, ASA, PC, PA and their fiber-filled versions, and says PLA, PETG and TPU print on open-frame or enclosed machines. It also recommends an enclosed printer for PETG when low room temperatures could weaken layer bonding.
  2. Then build volume — Current consumer models range from 180 mm cubed (A1 mini) through 256 mm cubed (A1, P1S, P2S) to 330 x 320 x 325 mm (A2L).
  3. Then the multi-color system — A-series printers use the AMS lite, one unit per printer. P, X and H2 series printers use the AMS family instead; the P2S Combo ships with the AMS 2 Pro.
  4. Check filament limits for that system — Soft TPU, damp PVA and many third-party fiber-filled filaments are not suited to the AMS lite. Bambu Lab's AMS lite FAQ and filament guide list the details.

Research note: every spec on this page comes from Bambu Lab’s own spec pages, store pages, blog and wiki. We do not test products ourselves, and we don’t list prices because they change often. See how we research.

Current consumer lineup at a glance

Model Build volume (mm) Frame Max nozzle temp Max bed temp Multi-color system Source
A1 mini 180 x 180 x 180 Open frame 300 °C 80 °C AMS lite Specs [1]
A1 256 x 256 x 256 Open frame 300 °C 100 °C AMS lite Specs [2]
A2L 330 x 320 x 325 Open frame 300 °C 80 °C AMS lite Specs [3]
P1S 256 x 256 x 256 Enclosed (plastic and glass) 300 °C 100 °C AMS Store [4]
P2S 256 x 256 x 256 Enclosed (plastic and glass) 300 °C 110 °C AMS 2 Pro in the Combo Specs [5]

Frame types follow the filament guide’s grouping, which lists the A series under open-frame printers and the P1S and P2S under enclosed printers (filament guide [8]). Bambu Lab also sells larger and dual-nozzle machines (the H2 series and X2D, which its filament guide lists among its enclosed printers). We will add them as we cover them.

Status notes from Bambu Lab:

  • P1P: end of manufacturing and active sales was 2026-02-10. Bambu Lab says spare parts and support continue until February 2031 (Bambu Lab blog [7]).
  • P1S: Bambu Lab says the P2S launch “does not mark by any means the discontinuation of the P1S model”, which remains on sale and supported (P2S announcement [6]). The P2S announcement is dated October 14, 2025.

What each model is suited to print

Bambu Lab’s filament guide [8] says ABS, ASA, PC, PA and their fiber-filled versions need higher bed and chamber temperatures to limit warping, and recommends an enclosed printer for them. The spec pages say the same thing model by model:

  • A1 mini and A1: PLA, PETG, TPU and PVA are rated “Ideal”. ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PET and carbon- or glass-fiber filaments are “Not Recommended” (A1 mini specs [1], A1 specs [2]).
  • A2L: PLA, PETG, TPU and PVA are listed as suitable. PLA-CF and PETG-CF are suitable once you fit a hardened steel nozzle (A2L specs [3]).
  • P2S: the spec page lists a wide range, including ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PA6-CF, PAHT-CF, PPA-CF and PET-CF. The P2S ships with a hardened steel nozzle (P2S specs [5]).

AMS lite vs AMS: which works with your printer

The AMS lite store page [9] says A1 and A2 series printers connect to one AMS lite at most, which means up to 4 colors. It also says the AMS lite is not compatible with X, P or H2 series printers. Bambu Lab’s filament guide [8] explains that the full AMS has an extra feeding gear the AMS lite lacks, so the AMS lite struggles more with soft or rough filaments.

How we chose what to include

This hub covers the Bambu Lab consumer printers whose spec pages we could open and check on the Last verified date. Every number in the table comes from the source linked in that row. We left out prices and launch offers, because they change faster than we can re-check them.

Disclaimer

This page summarizes Bambu Lab’s published specifications and documentation. We do not test products ourselves. Specs and model availability can change; check the linked official pages before you buy. Last verified: 2026-10-23.
